String Skipping Level 1
Scales are normally picked in a linear fashion, but when you incorporate the string skipping technique, you can get to the next note by literally jumping over strings and this clearly makes you faster. But there’s more to it than that: it gives you more variety since it encourages you break out of going up and down scales in your licks.
Why do you need to master this technique? We said it makes you faster but even if shredding is not your primary target, the string skipping truly amplifies your artistic freedom. For example, even by simply skipping the middle note of your arpeggios, you can already give your music a completely different flavour.
In this level, the key factor deserving your constant attention is playing in time: you’re jumping between distant strings, but this is clearly not a good excuse to be too slow. You will master triad arpeggios, the cornerstone of string skipping: it aims at improving your
dexterity and fluidness. You’ll find shapes for major, minor and diminished triads for 2 different chord patterns.
In this part, you will master the following aspects:
– accuracy of your picking hand
– improved timing
